The AED 300 million My City Centre features 18,500 sq m of gross leasable area
Mall will be one of the region’s most sustainable and home to 100th Carrefour hypermarket
Plans to recycle at least 80% of operational waste and other eco-friendly initiatives
Majid Al Futtaim opened the doors to its first shopping mall in Abu Dhabi. My City Centre Masdar, a AED300 million community project located in Masdar City, features 18,500 sq m of gross leasable area (GLA). The space includes dining options for Masdar City residents and surrounding communities, more than 70 stores and 600 car parking bays.
My City Centre Masdar has been designed with Masdar City’s sustainability goals in mind. The construction features sustainably sourced wood, energy-efficient escalators and lifts, LED lighting and advanced waste management technologies. All materials used during construction were manufactured within 500km of the project site.
A range of locally-grown produce will cater to the shops and restaurants in the mall. At least 80% of its operational waste is planned to be recycled. Additionally, the parking bays are shaded by photovoltaic panels that will generate up to one-fifth of the mall’s annual electricity consumption. Six percent of these parking spaces are allotted for electric, hybrid or carshare vehicles, with half of them equipped with charging points.
The mall is also home to a 7,000 sq m Carrefour hypermarket, marking the brand’s 100th store in the UAE. As part of the mall’s commitment to reducing single-use plastic bag usage, this Carrefour hypermarket will be the first in the UAE to not offer them at the tills.
